Linux Kernel 2.6: New Features-I Date: October 1, 2002
Linux Kernel 2.6: New Features-II Date: October 15, 2002
These are the first two in a series of three free seminars in
which Dr. Jerry Cooperstein will outline the changes coming in
the next major release of the Linux operating system kernel,
due in early 2003. These include: a new optimized scheduler,
kernel pre-emption, inclusion of the JFS and perhaps XFS
journaling file systems, reverse-mapping enhancements to the
virtual memory subsystem, inclusion of kernel support for the New
Generation Posix Threads library, better support for NUMA,
expansion to new architectures including AMD's x86-64 and Power
PC 64 bit, rewrites of the device driver model, serial drivers,
ACPI, IDE, the kernel building system, asynchronous I/O and the
block device layer.
