PRESENTATION
Introduction to Web Mapping

David Mandel

David Mandel will discuss the nuts and bolts of a web site he is
currently building using UMN MapServer. Topics will include:
- Overview of a few GIS concepts
Why GIS is different than other graphics.
Why Web mapping is different than other web applications.
- Overview of UMN MapServer
What it will do and what it won't do.
Brief discussion of alternative products.
- A critical view of a few cool web mapping sites
- A quick look at the site David Mandel is currently working on.
It is definitely a work in progress, but already has some
interesting features.
