Infogroup NW is looking to fill a System Administrator position in
Portland, OR. This is a contract to hire opportunity.
Position Summary
The System Administrator that takes on this role will be a very
experienced individual who provides technical leadership, assistance to
develop requirements, architectures, designs, implementations, tests,
and supporting systems to meet the needs of manufacturers, dealerships,
and our client's applications software. Provides technical project
guidance for medium to large project teams or else excel as an
individual contributor responsible for the most difficult technologies
critical to success in the area of infrastructure, networking and
hardware.
Primary responsibility of this position is building, configuring and
testing servers and PC's in support of our client's development effort.
Additional responsibilities include providing monitoring, and
troubleshooting, to improve the performance of servers and
internetworking equipment in the development and production
environments, level III support for pilot & field test clients reporting
application issues. Provides mentoring, coaching, and guidance to less
experienced team members and serves as a technical expert for systems
administration and development processes and issues.
The qualified applicant will have the following:
Education:
* BS or BA in Computer Science, Information Technology, or
Management Information Systems or equivalent education and experience.
Experience:
This position requires advanced knowledge of computer systems including
advanced architecture, hardware and software, diagnostic tools and
techniques through disciplined studies and experience.
It requires 6 - 10 years hands on experience building and configuring
Linux/Unix, and Windows 2000/2003 environments, and administering
personal computers and servers in a Web Services production and
development environment. Experience in systems monitoring and tuning
for performance. Experience configuring and supporting Apache, PHP,
and Websphere, as well as MQ, and DB2 interfaces. It also requires
systems administration knowledge of the TCP/IP Protocol Suite,
networking, personal computers, RAS, and various administration and
security tools for both the Linux and Windows environments.
Major Responsibilities
Directly responsible for, Intranet Applications and Database Servers,
Microsoft Internet Information Servers, FTP sites, WWW Servers, file
servers, various application development servers, and internetworking
equipment.
* Provide hardware and software configuration support for internal
development and QA test efforts.
* Support Administration of networking technologies for both development
and production environments.
* Set the standards and define technical requirements for systems and
system components. Deliver solutions, which meet the needs for
performance, functionality, cost, supportability, reliability, and
regulatory and environmental compliance.
* Track and maintain system and software revision levels.
* Act as a consultant to FSD management and participate as required in
presentations and discussions with vendors and their technical
representatives
* Maintain status, condition, troubleshoot and repair equipment and/or
software or coordinate with outside vendors as necessary for development
and production environments.
* Maintain accurate records regarding inventory and equipment
assignments of IT equipment.
* Participate in planning with team members to compile project plans to
ensure smooth transitions to new technology or methodologies.
* Provide level III support for pilot, and field test of new
applications.
* Provide systems and infrastructure support for production environment.
* Provides mentoring, coaching, and guidance to less experienced team
members.
* Maintain systems and infrastructure documentation.
* Support of projects and development is 50 to 70% of time.
Skills
* Able to build and configure Linux and Windows servers to conform to
applications, networking and security requirements.
* Ability to build, configure, and troubleshoot Apache, Websphere, MQ,
PHP.
* Able to provide configuration and troubleshooting assistance to:
Database administrators, Developers, Quality Assurance Engineers, and
outside partners.
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business processes,
technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
* Ability to generate and maintain clear and coherent systems and
infrastructure documentation.
* Ability to respond to technical inquiries or complaints from
developers, product and project managers, customers, regulatory agencies
and outside partners.
* Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw
valid conclusions.
* Ability to generate or interpret an extensive variety of technical
instructions in written, mathematical or diagram form and deal with
several abstract and concrete variables.
* Ability to play a highly proactive, participative role when working in
group situations.
* Familiar with all common and some advanced system administration tools
for Windows and Linux systems
* Ability to generate programs and scripts to aid systems administration
and reporting.
Discretion/Latitude
* Work is performed with minimal direction. Exercises considerable
latitude in determining technical resolution to achieve the objectives
of an assignment. Completed work is reviewed from both a short (project
prospective) and relatively long-term (annual progress) perspective for
desired results.
Internal and External Contact
* Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on system
configuration and administration. Interacts with senior external
personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination
between organizations. Works with internal development groups to define
systems and infrastructure configuration and support methods.
Supervisory Responsibilities
* May direct testing and support activities for cross-functional groups.
* May direct other team members on a project team during certain phases
of a project.
* Provides mentoring, coaching, and guidance to less experienced team
members.
* May supervise other team members tasks on a project
Other Position Requirements
Travel is by plane for 2 -3 day trips to remote facilities, client
sites, or outside training. Travel constitutes < 20% of the job
