In this position, you will be working with the MontaVista kernel maintainer with the following tasks: - Keeping the MontaVista kernel tree in sync with the upstream community kernel in a bi-directional basis, pulling and pushing patches as needed. - Testing of the kernel on a variety of hardware platforms including ARM, PowerPC, MIPS, SH, and x86-based systems. - Developing tools to automate kernel-related development, build, and testing tasks. You do not need to have much (or any) kernel hacking hacking experience as this position will provide an opportunity to learn, but the ideal candidate will meet most of the following requirements: - Experience with administering their own Linux systems as this is a work from home position. - A basic understanding of operating system and computer architecture concepts. - Experience programming in C - Exposure to, preferably experience, with assembly programming. - Using source control tools such as git and CVS - Writing scripts to automate complex tasks - Building customized kernels from source - A desire to learn and be involved in the Open Source community. You may find the beginning and some scenes surprisingly gory, but wait it out - it's really not about the gore. Apparently frogs are very susceptible to environmental damage. I haven't looked at it yet - but the concept is very interesting.
