Android Build and Release Engineer - 736632

*Description*

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Open Source Technology Center within the Software and Services Group is
looking for Build and Release engineers for SW development of Android IA
based products. The team is in the early forming stage and provides a great
opportunity to play a key role in building the organization and
capabilities from the ground up.

As a Build and Release Engineer, you'll use your strong technical and
coding abilities and your understanding of complex systems to design, code
and automate Platforms builds and releases. This requires scripting and
coding with an eye toward scalability so that big deployments can be broken
down and distributed across multiple data centers. The ideal candidate will
have proven experience to thrive in a complex software systems involving
multi-platform development environment as well as have the ability to work
both independently and as part of a team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build & release process management- Design, document and code an
automated build/test and release processes. Work with infrastructure teams
to support and innovate on state of the art tools for deployment
- Build and release Automation - Maintain the build process to support
ongoing development and release schedules by working with Integrators & QA
- Build generation, test release binaries and generate change-logs and
release notes for publications. Debug release related issues using Android
tools
- Work closely with product development teams to identify, prioritize, and
ensure key issues are fixed on time for a release.
- Publish build artifacts for testing the framework (Automation) and
analyze reports to make appropriate decision to release
- Publish OTA updates by working closely with QA and Integration teams
- Deployment of incremental updates to user devices by working with the
engineering teams
- Manage release branches and tags; Follow defined processes that are
associated with build tags as they evolve from development, through quality
assurance, integration, and pre-release, to final release.
- Support/develop scripts to automate releases, deployment and automation
of testing on these platforms striving towards continuous delivery -
responsible to make always reproducible releases
- Collaborate with integration/SCM teams to improve the scalability of the
build, test and release process.
- Participate in the release of high quality software; certify the overall
quality of the system and ensure each release is ready to ship.
- Support internal and external customers in addressing issues related to
released software. Continually update build and release methods based on
rapidly changing technologies.
- Report daily on the quality and stability of the software

*Qualifications*

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer
Engineering or equivalent and 3 years of experience or Master’s Degree and
2 years of experience in a combination of the following:
- 3+ years of experience in builds, release engineering and/or
configuration management; preferably Android

Additional Qualifications:
- Very thorough in release engineering concepts and best practices
- Experience with build management tools (for example: make, scons, ant).
Hands-on experience setting up and/or maintaining automated build systems
using Jenkins, Hudson, Buildbot etc.
- Solid understanding of the integration between automated software test
and the build process.
- Hands-on and direct experience with configuration management like Gerrit,
Git, Perforce, Jenkins or Subversion. Have developed server-side scripts/SW
to tie in Gerrit with other tools such as Jenkins, Jira, test framework etc.
- Proficient coding experience in Python, Shell scripting, or Perl.
