I'm not saying we don't have the right to regulate it.
What I'm saying is that we've created many more illegal aliens than there should be, by having a process in place that doesn't deal with reality very well.
It's like prohibition, or (in more modern times) the drug war. Making drinking illegal didn't make alcohol go away. Keeping drugs illegal doesn't make them go away either. It just makes criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens.
It's a bad law, and should be changed.
