The first 150 years? I don't think there was any bread back then.

A solution requires an analysis of alternatives to the root cause. The
root cause is capitalism and its dependence on the exploitation of labor
and intolerance of non-commercial value systems.
Few of the alternatives, numerous though they are, have been practically
tested because of the massive accumulated power of the people who benefit
most from maintaining the status quo and their willingness to use horribly
destructive force to do so.
Mostly, the only alternate systems that have been tested at all were those
that could abide (or promoted) accumulated power and willingness to use
horribly destructive force equal to or greater than the capitalists.
Nobody else can get off the ground.

The Constitution was written by people with a vested interest in ensuring
and stated desire to ensure the power and control of the wealthy over the
mass of men.
I don't think strictly following that particular document, clever as much
of it is, is going to do anything to guarantee a living wage to all
people.
