So you don't think it's a problem that our society fails to provide a
living wage for those upon whom its operation depends? That shouldn't be
a goal?

You've reverted, Russ.

I told you six months ago that the Constitution doesn't say anything about
"the pursuit of happiness". The signers of the Declaration of
Independence pledged their belief that all men are endowed with certain
inalienable Rights and that, among these, is the pursuit of Happiness.
The document goes on to say that "Governments are instituted among Men"
"to secure these rights".

Remember that the people who wrote the Declaration of Independence were
NOT the same people that wrote the Constitution. The DoI, while generally
attributed solely to Jefferson, was the work of Jefferson, Paine, and
Henry. None of those men attended the Consitutional Convention in
Philadelphia.

The high moral foundation for separation from England as expressed in the
Declaration of Independence was not translated into the foundation of this
nation's laws in the Constitution. They were written by different people
with different ethical standards and different agenda.

In other words, Governments can be instituted among Men to secure those
rights, but ours wasn't.
