What do you mean by working knowledge then?  It's neat to be able to 
tell somebody how a refrigerator works at a cocktail party but that has 
no practical value - to keep my milk and eggs cold all I need to know is 
how to keep the fridge plugged in.  Is that what you mean by working 
knowledge?
