        HOW-NOT-TO
        Avoiding Intellectual Property Quagmires

by Zach Welch <zw at superlucidity.net>

"This talk will provide an overview of a tangled web of (mostly
contrived) FOSS intellectual property transgressions that a developer
discovered he could have been committing just by working on an embedded
system he purchased. The tale should provide a poignant insight as to
why intellectual property laws (specifically selective enforcement of
copyright license rights) must be given as much consideration as the
work products themselves. Because the issue has not been resolved, the
speaker is continuing to withhold the company's name to allow them time
to find the best long-term remedies."

Zach Welch has been providing professional FOSS consulting services
for over two years, recently giving "motivational talks" for using open
source effectively in business. He has pioneered a new open source
business model through his 'forking toolkit' and is working to publicly
	launch this long awaited effort."

Come Join us for Beer after the meeting at Clod Feldters.
We try to get there between 8:30 and 9:00.
