I would love to see someone who has managed to work their way into using
GRASS give a talk/seminar on the subject.  Russell?

Tell me about it.  I've been interested in GRASS for years, but never
really got off the ground with it.  Mostly for lack of a compelling
reason, but also because the sample dataset that ships with GRASS
(Spearfish) is from BFE and I had no context for WTF I was seeing on
the screen.  At least I am familiar with the geography around Mt Hood
and that helped immensely.  I am still feeling my way, but making some
progress.  I'd be glad to show you what I know.

BTW, there is a bigger one (~2meg) now too, the aptly named:

I added 8 more 7.5-minute quads, now 5 N-S and 4 E-W.  You can see
Bonneville Dam in the foreground and all of the Eagle Creek
watershed.  Still no blue water though.
