[PLUG-TALK] Fire extinguishers

A friend of mine just had an oven fire. Like me, he had a
monoammonium phosphate ABC fire extinguisher in the kitchen, and used
it. Afterwards, he found out that monoammonium phosphate powder
penetrates everything, is allergenic, and damages electrical metals.
He had to throw out all exposed foods, have everything in his house
professionally cleaned, and even clean inside computer cabinets and
electrical outlets. Just from a few short and directed bursts at
his oven. The fire extinguisher may have saved his house, but it did
thousands of dollars worth of damage, and uncleaned corrosion in the
electrical system could result in more fires.

So now I am looking for better fire extinguishers. For the kitchen,
my primary tools will be baking soda and covering the fire (smothering)
and the sink, but if a computer or a monitor catches fire I need
something that will stop the fire without destroying what I intend
to save. Which leads us to the question:

Does anybody know of home-office-compatable fire extinguisher types
that do not suffer these drawbacks? I understand that Halotron ABC
extinguishers are better in many ways, but some say they make
poisonous gas in some kinds of flames. Yikes!
