   Thank you, Galen. I no longer feel as foolish, gullible, and thoughtless
as I did. The battery in this unit is not a Sony, but an aftermarket
replacement purchased a couple of years ago. I suppose that it could have
been made by Sony for the private-label customer, but the name on the
battery is not Sony.
