Larry,
That's correct. According to the user guide, auxilliary devices (vcr, dvd
player) go between the receiver and the TV.

There is a coax cable between the satellite receiver and the TV. There's
also the three RCA-plug cable between the DVD player and the TV. But, there
is no display on the TV (channels 3 or 4) when the DVD player is running.

That's what the DISH manual recommends, ...

That's what the DVD player has: The S DIN connector, 6 RCA-type sockets,
and no coax.
So, perhaps it's an operational matter and not connectivity. Here's what
we have:
The DISH receiver has a coaxial cable between it's output and the TV's
antenna socket. The DVD player has heavy cables between the video/audio
RCA-type output and the RCA-type inputs on the back of the TV.
If the TV is on, and tuned to channel 3 or 4, no signal from the DVD
player is displayed. Does one turn off the DISH receiver in order for the TV
to display the DVD player signal? It seems that the receiver is blocking the
auxilliary input.
Thanks,
Rich
