I have an old Russell Hobbs electric kettle, and I need to repair the
power cord. I believe the ketle is manufactured in England, but
obviously the power cord is specialized for the US market, at least at
the wall socket end. The cord failure is at the appliance end, where
one edge of the rubber cover has deteriorated and the wire separated.
The appliance end connector is female, and I suspect that the pinch
lugs (or whatever they are called) inside the cord connector may be
metric, or some other specialized size. The connector has a custom
shape, with two guides/slots, arranged oppositely on the top and
bottom of the connector. The cord was manufactured in Canada by Noma.
The male prongs on the kettle are flat and in a 'standard' three
prong arrangement, but about half the size of the US equivalents. In
addition, the appliance end connector was riveted shut.
I drilled out the rivets, which I want to replace with small bolts,
small dimension with small nuts/washers like one might find inside a
laptop computer. I want to get replacement lugs. My plan is to first
try the Best Hardware around the corner, then Winks which is
relatively close.
I'm looking for suggestions for other possible sources for these
parts, or any other suggestions about this repair. Yes, I can order
a replacement cord from the US distributor in CT, for $20 + shipping,
which I may end up doing anyway, but I'd like to give this a shot
first.
