Parkrose no longer stocks carbon brushes.  Faulkner says theirs are for auto
use--to high a copper content for a vacuum cleaner.  Division HW has
something which might work, but will require some tinkering.  I found
something on line which is a little longer, but I have lost the site!.  In
either case the connector at the end of the wire will have to be changed

I hate to contemplate trashing a fine vacuum cleaner for want of a piece of
carbon.  What will happen to the carcass if I toss it?
