   For all the talk about making public-funded data readily available, we
know that's not always the case. Unlike other federal agency Web sites that
are so tightly bound to Microsoft that they refuse to function with any
non-Microsoft software, the US Geological Survey makes their position clear.

   On the national hydrogaphy data site they write, "The third method allows
for data extraction by state in the form of a file geodatabase in high
resolution. Click on this link to go to the ftp site containing the data.
Open the ftp site in Internet Explorer. It will not work in Mozilla
Firefox."

   I will soon find out if it works with ncftp.
