It's all about precedence and (assumed) operators, right? I mean, it 
could be

   666 = literally, as you listed: (vi)(vi)(vi)
   5441 = (v)(iv)(iv)(i)
   515151 = (v)(i)(v)(i)(v)(i)
   * = other combinations as imagination permits

Then there are the assumed operators:

   666 = relies on assumed (vi * 100)(vi * 10)(vi * 1) since the
         Greek for Rev 13:18 says "six hundred sixty six":

but it could be

   18 = (vi)+(vi)+(vi)
   216 = (vi)*(vi)*(vi)
