with regards to this and the ability of governments to shut down the internet at
will, as shown recently in egypt and elsewhere, i am starting to be *really*
intrigued by the idea of mesh networking carried on mobile. 

with end-point encryption and enough device saturation, you've got a hive-style
network that's next to impossible to take down, and raises interesting
possibilities for voip telephony sans carrier.

i'm sure there's currently a lot of technical obstacles to something like this,
but it's fun to dream about.
