[PLUG-TALK] WiFi calling with Android phone without a carrier

I had a T-Mobile $10 for three months plan on my old Android phone so
that I could use it as an emergency phone, but I forgot to renew it
before it expired and T-Mobile now wants $20 for a new SIM card, plus
another $10 for another three months. And I know I will forget to renew
it again three months from now. Yes, T-Mobile sends out reminders, but
they send them to the phone. I never pick up this phone because it is
just for emergency use.

The phone still works on the net because I have it connected to my home
wireless. So I decided to see if I could make wireless calls and, Skype
to the rescue, voilà! I just used it to call my real phone and it
worked perfectly. My new phone recorded the call as coming from
1-661-380-3000 in California. I guess that's Skype's number, but I
don't care. In fact, it might be cool to have a phone I can make a call
on without the other party knowing who it's from.
