Expenses always expand to line the pockets of as many people as can
get themselves involved in a given enterprise....

And earlier post in this thread mentioned "marketing" as a cost. It's
not really a cost, so much as a way for middlemen and other
unnecessary individuals to provide income for themselves.... much like
advertising, or department managers, or phone sanitizers, or
beauticians.... (with apologies to Douglas Adams) .
