People often carry data that's of worth to governmental or criminal 
entities. It only takes one corrupt official (not necessarily one 
employed by the US gov't) for the "you must decrypt" command to lead 
to your data being leaked, sold, or stored on a server you don't 
trust.

Far from paranoid, I'd consider it prudent for any business traveler, 
doubly so since it takes so little effort these days.
