There is a market these days for so-called Metro Ethernet, which is
basically fiber-to-the-building. That starts at around $2k/month.
Fiber doesn't really cost that much, it is cheaper than copper to
deploy. Google, sonic.net, etc are selling symetric gigabit for
~$70/month, which one can assume is more than it costs to provide.
So, yes, I advocate paying what it costs to provide, but not the
gigantic predatory markup that control of the infrastructure allows.
