It is legal to own an AK47, but only with a sportster stock (like a
rifle), and without the trigger sear that allows it to switch to full
auto or 3-round semi-auto.  The sear is a little piece of metal that
you must never, ever make with hand tools from plans freely available
on the internet.  You must not buy drum magazines or more than three
banana clips.  This would be wrong, and the terrorists would win.

And if you disregard all these warnings, you lug around some very
heavy ammunition; 40 7.62×39mm rounds weigh a pound.  At 10 rounds
per second, you go though a heavy box of ammunition fast.
