Perhaps that's the largest SSD that Dell offered.  The chipset in your
netbook is the same used in Asus EEE PCs of similar vintage.  I can
testify from experience that a 250 GB SATA SSD works just fine in
those.

And here I though LILO was no longer in active use.  Can you boot from
a rescue disk?  In the GRUB2 world, you can boot from removeable media
(CD, USB thumb drive, etc.) into the GRUB shell, whereupon you can
experiment with different settings prior to writing a config file.
Tedious, but it works.
