(Glossary below)
Nice! I'm sure there are things that are "newer and better" than
Asterisk, but it's a good, incumbent solution with lots of documentation
and features.
Last I knew, line cards are still pricy but EBay may disagree. 2-line
FxS ATAs are cheap and common. I have 1-2 unused ones kicking around, I
think.

Generally, the hard part is finding line cards or ATAs that can drive a
physical ringer.

Of course you can have all the incoming/outgoing lines you want via
VoIP, with the ability to call anywhere in the world at rates too cheap
to worry about.

Also, would be curious if you could get the Asterisk SoftModem to work
with the TTY modems.

Apropos that, I just renewed my asterhack.org domain, always meant to
start a VoIP user group.

Also, I have some more equipment (including a nice FxO ATA) that I
bought to build a PBX for my wife's business, but I didn't get it done
in time.
And I inherited a sophisticated phone line tester from an old job.

FxS: "Station" interface, plug a phone in to this to talk to the PBX.
FxO: "Office" interface, plug into a phone line to make/receive calls
with the PBX.
ATA: analog telephone adaptor, makes FxS and FxO ports available on your
LAN.
Termination: Making an outgoing call via VoIP.
Origination: Receiving a call via VoIP.
