[PLUG] Dying DVD drive / irksome fan

Come to think of it, after having re-read your problem, and my own response...
Check to see if you possibly have both your IDE hard disk and your IDE DVD drive
on the same cable, and both set to master.

Generally if that happens, nothing will work, but depending on the hard drive
it will sometimes take over and bump off the other device.  Just something
to check while you're in there.
