And as much as this entire thread is off-topic, the sad part is that
this is correct.  The public school system in America is largely based
on that developed in Britain during the industrial revolution which was
not created to educate, but to indocrinate and create a more capable
working class.  This is, of course, all based on my fuzzy memory of my
readings on the subject, but those memories tell me it's at least mostly
correct.  I would, however, love to be corrected.
