So are you saying that Redhat (or any other entity) shouldn't be 
compensated for what they do?

The developers choose to give it away.

Redhat also gives away a significant amount of their work. Those that pay 
for it are CHOOSING to pay for it. The GPL specifically give them that 
right, and it's working.

I don't see any problem with this.

Redhat also creates some of the software used in their distribution. A case 
in point is the installer. They give that away too. Several other 
distributions use the same installer, or a branch thereof.
