Has anyone tried their example3.c?  I was following along to make sure I
understood everything, but I don't have an x86 w/linux to test it on.  I
tried on HP-UX and Solaris machines and they output 1, which should be
wrong.  When I get home tonight I will try it on my amd under linux, but
it seems like this example should work under most versions of unix with
modern hardware.  (Of course there will always be exceptions.)
