I've always used ctrl-atl-Fn. I notice in the sawfish window manager (at
least) alt-fn changes workspaces.
Side note:
When I went to verify that ctrl-alt-Fn really was the sequence, it switched
to a text console as promised, but the message,
end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
is repeating down the screen. I toggle back to X and check
/var/log/messages and see that the kernel is spitting this out--I'm scared.
Looks like it has been doing this since Dec 1. hdc is my cdrom which is
empty. Think I'll reboot to see if this will stop clogging my logs...
