  FWIW, I believe that you're all correct -- depending on which model drive.
I've used only WD (and one Maxtor) since my Seagate ST-225. Nary a problem.
But, ... I learned that some WD models were pigs and to avoid those. From
what I've read in the past, this is true for each manufacturer.
