So, do this:

Connect to your home machine via ssh, and view your email through the 
encrypted ssh pipe. Keeps the prying eyes out.

Use Opera with "Refuse pop-up windows". If you run a proxy at home, you can 
forward those requests through the ssh pipe too, but this would be slow.

Just a thought. I've never worked in an environment that was this (insert 
favorite word here) about network traffic.
