Private computer instruction is expensive.
I haven't looked at prices in a while, but it seems to me that
places like New Horizons charge about $250 per day for their
low level classes and about $500 per day for their high level
classes. I believe Ed's classes are much cheaper.

Actually, the price of this sort of education is a real problem.
Ed is offering one alternative that lowers this cost a good deal.
People like Free Geek are trying a different approach.
And I suppose I've been trying still other approaches.

Public colleges have often have larger classes than those in private
computer workshops. They are also tax supported, so naturally they
charge lower tuitions.

More importantly, the type of education you get in college is very
different from what you get in computer workshops. College education
should educate students in the arts and sciences and give them skills
that will last their entire lives. Computer workshops are designed to
intensive instruction in some specialized field which may only be
useful for a short period of time. In other words, you learn
triangle trigonometry in college and you learn to operate a card punch
in a computer workshop.
