[PLUG] Editing PDF files

I usually do PDF --(pdf2ps)--> PS --(pstoedit)--> SK or AI, then use Sketch to import and then place text and when done take it to PS or PDF again. Of course SK or AI could be SVG or FIG or whatnot and you use sodipodi or xfig or whatnot--and there's a whole diversity of whatnot.

The quality varies in the pstoedit portion of the game seems to depend on which backend it is and how complicated the .ps is.

The main goal is to avoid rasterizing it, which even in the above chain is sometimes tricky depending on what fonts the PDF uses... under some conditions Ghostscript rasterizes certain characters for fonts it doesn't deal well with.

Doesn't the xfig picture import even from a .ps/.eps rasterize it?
