To put the K12linux and FreeGeek projects in perspective, here's some
information from the July Linux Journal that showed up today [1]:

The government of Extremadura, a rural area called the poorest in
Spain, burned 80,000 cds with Debian linux so the discs could be distributed
as newspaper inserts.

There are 670 schools in Extremadura.

There are 32 technology centers in Extremadura.

The expected annual savings to the Extremaduran community is $7
million.

The number of government offices and schools expected in the
Extremadura extranet by the end of this year is 1,478.

There are 15,000 teachers expected to be trained on the use of linux
in the classroom.
