The SPAM was injected via SMTP from an unsubscribed address.

All you have to do to make things work exactly as they have been working
for you is subscribe to the list and check the "no mail" option.

It's pretty simple and you can go back to doing things as you've been
doing them.

And there will be less SPAM because the list will be open to subscribers
only.

It came from an unsubscribed address. We're closing the list to
unsubscribed addresses on all portals.

It's important to remember that you don't have to receive mail as a result
of subscription. There is a "no mail" option.

Nobody's stopping the NNTP gateway. We're just adding a check to see that
the NNTP poster's FROM: address matches the address of a subscribed list
member.
