remember that big T gives you cached performance.  Stick with little t
for actual disk througput.  Even better use bonnie or tiotest.

However in general I have found -t to give a good enough indication of
performance.  Big T is interesting in that it gives you a good
indication of your system RAM performance.

The DMA setting will be turned on automagically if you compile the
kernel with the correct options, in particular the "enable DMA by
default" option.  You must also check off support for the MOBO chipset
being used.

In most cases this is sufficient.
