Wil,
Your first term does have a certain retentive sense to it, but your second
term is a valid one. Coprophagy is exhibited by rabbits, marine worms and
many freshwater aquatic insects. I know because my doctoral dissertation was
on "The Role of Aquatic Insect Feces on Stream Ecosystem Energetics". Known
among the denizens of the lab as the "feces thesis". And, yes, I heard all
the puns -- many times. :-)
I guess it was this work that prepared me to deal with regulators and
politicians so well.
