[PLUG] CUPS configuration--Red Hat 7.3

CUPS was straightforward to set up for a local printer on Redhat 7.3,
but I wouldn't know how to tackle a remote printer. I like the new
LPR/CUPS switching utility they packaged with the distro. If I were
you, I'd first try to get it working on a local printer to eliminate
variables and make sure CUPS itself is functional, then tackle the
remote printer "guess an IPP or URL address" stuff for remote printing.

Robert,

Do you have /usr/sbin/printers? Also, you should have files in
approximately these places (this is from my RH 6.2 server):

/usr/include/cups/
(and all the files under this directory)
/usr/lib/cups/
(and all the files under this directory)
/usr/lib/cups/backend/
(and all the files under this directory)
/usr/lib/cups/cgi-bin/
(and all the files under this directory)
/usr/lib/cups/daemon/
(and all the files under this directory)
/usr/lib/cups/filter/
(and all the files under this directory)
/usr/lib/libcups.a
/usr/lib/libcups.a.O
/usr/lib/libcups.so.2.O
/usr/lib/libcupsimage.so.2.O
/usr/lib/libcups.so
/usr/lib/libcups.so.2
/usr/lib/libcupsimage.so
/usr/lib/libcupsimage.so.2
/usr/man/man5/cupsd.conf.
/usr/man/man8/cupsd.8.O
/usr/man/cat5/cupsd.conf.5
/usr/man/cat8/cups-polld.8.O
/usr/man/cat8/cups-polld.8
/usr/sbin/cupsd
/usr/sbin/cupsd-nopam
/usr/sbin/cupsd-pam
/usr/share/cups/
(and all the files under this directory)
/usr/share/doc/cups/
/usr/share/doc/cups/ipp.html
/usr/share/doc/cups/ipp.pdf
/usr/share/doc/cups/overview.html
/usr/share/doc/cups/overview.pdf
/usr/share/doc/cups/sam.html	# System Administrators Manual
/usr/share/doc/cups/sam.pdf
/usr/share/doc/cups/sdd.html
/usr/share/doc/cups/sdd.pdf
/usr/share/doc/cups/spm.html
/usr/share/doc/cups/spm.pdf
/usr/share/doc/cups/sps.html
/usr/share/doc/cups/sps.pdf
/usr/share/doc/cups/ssr.html
/usr/share/doc/cups/ssr.pdf
/usr/share/doc/cups/sum.html
/usr/share/doc/cups/sum.pdf	# System Users Manual
/usr/share/doc/cups/svd.html
/usr/share/doc/cups/svd.pdf

  ... and so on.

If you don't have all this, that would be a good reason for not seeing
the
results you want. :-)
