[PLUG] mp3 file question

Is there a Linux tool that will allow me to combine several mp3 files
into one mp3 file, with a suitable, short pause between each file?

I know how to rip a CD into a single file, and have done that for most
of my collection of CD's. I have a few that I ripped into separate track
files and would like to combine them. Also, when I finally get around to
recording my LP's, I will have 2 files to combine, one for each side.
