I like that the list is fairly loose about what is on-topic, having 'topic 
cops', like some lists, is worse than wandering a bit.  But the same old 
rants from the same old ranters don't interest me, nor do other people's 
half-baked poli-sci and conspiracy theories. Even if they're right, I don't 
care- that's not why I come here. Plug-talk is available for any subject. I 
suspect posts more appropriate for Plug-talk end up here, for lack of an 
audience.  

You're right that everyone has beliefs that are of the utmost importance to 
them. Where some of them blow it is insisting on spouting diatribes, without 
considering the context or the audience. It's a big turnoff to be lectured 
and talked at, and treated like you know nothing, like you have never given 
thought to the issues. I think most of PLUGers have given a thought or two to 
the larger issues, and really don't need to be yelled at and talked down to.

It seems to self-correct pretty well. Stick around and enjoy the fun.
