FWIW: Here's my take on the various xU sizes:

* 1U  : looks cool, but loud since tiny fans spin so quickly
* 2U  : the sweet spot!
* 3U  : a bit big, but not bad
* 4U+ : too big unless you need lots of local disks

If you can, you might think about getting a rack-mountable UPS to 
stick at the bottom of your rack...
