Or I suppose you could use something like giFT (gift.sourceforge.net) if 
you don't mind sharing with others.

Something like Samba won't work over the 'net unless you setup a VPN 
between the systems you want to share with...and even then it probably 
won't fall under bullet #3.

I'd say ftp would probably be the best bet, with a web-based search 
engine.
