  Unfortunately, no. It is the same as the top of /var/log/XFree86.0.log but
indicates when I killed the server:

  This is quite puzzling, to write the least! I did find a reference in
~/.xinitrc to $HOME/.Xmodmap, and that doesn't exist; there's a .xmodmap so
I changed .xinitrc to match. Makes no difference.

  Any ideas where to go from here?
