[PLUG] vi Can't write to "resolv.conf" -- NOT WRITTEN

Wrote a resolv.conf file, though I am very disappointed in dhcp not pulling
it.  Moving on ....

I cannot write to any existing file.  I am using vi and logged in as root
(Sparc 20 running debian 2.2).  When I do a ":w" I get :

 Can't write to "resolv.conf" -- NOT WRITTEN

So what I've been doing is editing files, saving them to <filename>.old, and
then mv <filename>.old <filename>.

It works, but it's irritating.

Any thoughts?
