  Yes, I did try that. No output in the aterm, threads running in the
process list and no display. Because I also had s stuck rpm install
(uninterruptable sleep status) that clogged up the rpm database, I gave up
and rebooted.

  All's working again now. Go figure. Just a computer moment.
