[PLUG] Info on format for /dev/dsp or /dev/audio

Just for posterity (in case someone searches the list in the
future) I found the answer to *some* of my audio questions in
the fact that I was using sox Version 12.17.1. It turns out
that version doesn't really work very well. I upgraded to
sox 12.17.3, and that appears to work reliably. It will also
presumably give me a coding example of how to handle /dev/dsp.
