[PLUG] Half a network problem

On the newly installed distribution on my notebook, the network is up and
running, but I cannot reach all other hosts.
When I ping by hostname I can reach "caddis" (192.168.55.2) and router1
(192.168.55.4), but I cannot reach "salmo" (192.168.55.1). I cannot find the
glitch. The message returned by "ping salmo" is:
ping: unknown host salmo
The other direction works: pinging lemna from salmo.
/etc/hosts is the same on all boxes (transferred by floppy disk). Isn't
this where host names are resolved to IP addresses? Where else should I look
for this problem?
Thanks,
Rich
