  Someone please explain to me why:
	"kill -HUP syslogd"
fails on my RH 7.3 system ("no such pid") while:
	"/etc/rc.d/init.d/syslog restart"
works.

  I thought that signals could be used with both BSD and SysV style init
scripts.
